Update 0.48.25: I'm Back!

I have (finally!) released an update to Isometric Park! (And then it took me over two weeks to write the release notes, lol.)

  • Sound effects! Rather than acting in a silent void, there's tangible feedback when you click things.
  • Various tree types! I'm not satisfied with the current art, but I think the variety is nice.
  • Water! Like the tree types, this is currently a work-in-progress and just for variety, but more mechanics are coming soon.

  • Forest Preserves! Dedicate areas that are not to be used for visitors or logging activity.

    The new buttons
  • animated screenshot of a user dragging out a blue square over an isometric park scene, then selecting Dezone and removing it.

  • Watch towers! Not much functionality here, but will integrate with future features.
screenshot of a tower several tiles high on a small outcropping
  • Graphs! Is it a simulation without a graph? Probably, but I like graphs.
Screenshot of a graph window, showing a graph with two lines, Subsidies and Upkeep. Subsidies is a horizontal line indicating $15,000 for the entire time period. There's also a second, green lin marked Upkeep rising from $14,6450 to $14,935. Below are buttons to set the number of years displayed and what series of data to show.

I realized this update ended up being more oriented around scaffolding new parts than adding gameplay mechanics. That's unfortunate (and since I didn't realize it over the course of year, kind of of depressing to realize now), but that's the reality of making a game I guess.

As an experiment, I made the default map bigger, which unfortunately might make performance suffer a little bit on less capable machines. I'm looking into performance improvements. I've already started on some improvements, including upgrading FNA, mostly so that I have any recent bugfixes. It was very easy, so I'll probably upgrade more frequently.

I want to get back into the swing of updates, so hopefully there will be a small update relatively soon (as in, closer to a month away than a year away).
